title = "Numerical simulation of composite structures - First ply failure under non-proportional loading",
abstract = "A computational approach for handling non-proportional loading in first ply failure analysis of layered fiber reinforced composites is presented. It is realized by categorizing the acting loads as constant or variable and distinguishing constant and variable stress contributions. The risk of failure is assessed in terms of a stress based failure envelope and four load factors, the latter being defined as linear combinations of the constant and variable stress states. Plane as well as three-axial stress states can be handled in combination with various failure models. A computer program is developed and hooked up onto a Finite Element package as a post-processing tool. Finally, as an example problem, a fiber reinforced pressure vessel under thermal and mechanical loading is investigated.",
