Description
Within the framework of this feasibility study, the relationship between dietary quality and mental health is investigated. The aim of the study is to evaluate a nutrition-based intervention with increased fruit and vegetable intake in the context of depression treatment. Specifically, the use of a fruit and vegetable purée as an intervention for patients with unipolar depression is examined. Potential effects of the intervention on psychological well-being as well as the feasibility of its implementation are assessed.
The three-week study is designed as a randomized pre–post intervention study. A total of 24 patients with a clinically diagnosed unipolar depression will participate at the University Hospital Tulln. Participants are randomly assigned to one of two study conditions and consume a comparison product over the course of the study period. Questionnaire-based assessments are conducted at the beginning and at the end of the study.
To support the implementation of the study, seed funding in the amount of €10,000 has been applied for.
