Abstract
This work is focused on fiber reinforced woven fabric laminates, a special type of polymer matrix composite. Perforated laminates (acoustic laminates), that employ of 2/2 twill weaves are considered. They are used for structural components (blocker doors, bypass duct) of aircraft engines. The presented hierarchical design concept aims at capturing different interaction mechanisms of such materials/structures such as tow/matrix interaction at the ply level, lay-up effects, and stress concentrations due to the perforations. The investigations (stiffness and first ply failure) start at the macro-scale (structural level) and go down to the micro-scale (fiber/matrix level) by using well known micro-mechanical models as well as homogenization methods in combination with 3D finite element computations on different length scales.
