Evidence and rational of the use of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) in sports medicine – conservative therapies and augmentation during operations

The clinical use of blood derivates such as platelet rich plasma is an increasingly used therapy for acute and chronic musculosceletal pathologies. The body of evidence beyond osteoarthrits has grown over the course of the last decade especially for sport injuries and sports related ailments. In particular, increasingly available data for pathologies such as muscle injuries, tendinoptahies and overuse syndroms help in medical decision making. This paper aims to provide a concise overview of the current literature regarding common pathologies in the field. A focus was put on differentiating between surgical augmentations and non-surgical treatments.
