ntroduction: The experience of intersubjectivity and resonance between people and its investigation is a fundamental part of social and neuroscientific sciences. There is a growing need for creative arts therapy process analysis to identify mechanisms of change (1). In clinical case reports, resonance and intersubjectivity between therapists and patients are often described as interesting and meaningful moments in the therapeutic process. Recent neuroscientific methods aim to bridge these qualitative lived experiences to quantitative (neuro)physiological analogies.Methods: An in-depth analysis of music therapy (MT) objectivist case-study material, including qualitative interviews, video analysis and (neuro)physiological data, was conducted. The combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches opens the possibility of studying interaction from various perspectives and enables profound discussions on features of MT.
Results: The symposium presents multimodal aspects of MT case examples in neurorehabilitation and illuminates interactive moments from various perspectives: the therapist’s and the patients’ lived experiences, video analysis, heart-rate synchrony, neurophysiological findings looking into shared emotional processing and brain-to-brain coupling and how this relates to specific MT interventions.
Discussion: The interdisciplinary team will discuss and reflect on the outcomes, challenges, and benefits of this mixed-methods approach and its contributions to existing knowledge on MT processes and outcomes.
